In commemoration of National Autism Awareness Month, Boca Raton Resort & Club, A Waldorf Astoria Resort is participating in “Light It Up Blue” to help raise awareness about autism.  To kick off the resort’s awareness efforts, the iconic pink façade and tower as well as its main lobby and Palm Court area were lit up in a blue hue on April 2, World Autism Awareness Day.

For the remainder of April, the resort’s outpost of the famed New York eatery Serendipity will be offering vanilla-flavored blue cupcakes topped with a chocolate puzzle piece – an ode to the organization’s Puzzle Piece symbol which reflects the mystery and complexity of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In addition, blue craft cocktails at the resort’s new signature restaurant, the blue, and Rally for Autism, a Round Robin Tennis Tournament, planned for April 27th will benefit the cause. All revenue from the initiatives will be donated to Autism Speaks. All team members of the resort will be wearing the blue ribbon in support as well.

“Autism affects nearly 25 percent of the families of team members, including my son, as well as many of our member families, here at the Boca Raton Resort & Club,” said Kelly Vohs, general manager.  “We believe in doing our part to support Autism awareness as well as supporting the families who are touched by autism.  These children should be treasured and are in need of overwhelming support from their families and the community.”

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in 68 children nationwide is found to have an autism spectrum disorder at birth.  Currently over one million Americans are living with autism.
